DSC_6045 Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) fishing. Lake Benmore is one of our most productive larger lakes for trout fishing. Rainbow trout thrive here and there is also a healthy stock of brown trout. In recent years chinook salmon have been introduced into the lake, and sockeye are also found here.
DSC_5881 Mackinaw (Salvelinus namaycush) were introduced to New Zealand in 1906. They are confined to one lake in the South Island. Winter fishing may offer slightly improved odds of catching a fish although those caught rarely exceed 1 kg in weight and are typically in poor condition. Lake Pearson
