DSC_0531 A young student draws a series of three nested circles. In the inner circle she lists seashore creatures only found in NZ, in the next circle she lists species found both here and in Australia, and in the outer circle she lists species found here and worldwide. This exercise might encourage children to explore further, and learn that some species have been introduced into NZ from elsewhere, while some NZ species have be transported to other parts of the world. The class can discuss which animals are native, which are endemic, and which are invasive. Ask why this might be important to know? What impact might it be having? How might it be controlled? *
