DSC_5569 Oyster blenny (Omobranchus anolius) male. Introduced. Hides mainly in dead oyster shells, but also under boulders in the intertidal areas of estuaries and sheltered harbours. First discovered in areas east of Auckland around 2003, they probably arrived in ships ballast from Australia, where they are endemic. Probably still expanding their range. Te Tokaroa Reef, Waitemata Harbour *
DSC_9453 Crested blenny (Parablennius laticlavius) often seen resting on a rock face in the open. They will dart into a hole 'tail first' if frightened. Most common in the north, and usually shallower than 20m. Nordic Bay, Leigh Coast *
