DSC_1227 Black foot paua (Haliotis iris) grouped in a rock pool on semi exposed coastline. Paua are found on exposed rocky reefs from the low intertidal to 10m depth, although seldom in these numbers now except in marine reserves.. The iridescent shell is much sought after for souvenirs, and was once used to great effect by Maori in carvings and for fishing spinners. The flesh has considerable food value. Otago Coast *
