DSC_6855 Gibbs' octopus, (Octopus tetricus) pseudomorph. Two distinct 'inking' behaviours have been observed in octopus. The first is to release a dark, diffuse 'smoke screen', allowing the octopus to escape. The second is a 'false body' of ink with a greater mucus content which holds it's shape for longer, confusing a predator into attacking a 'false octopus', while the real one escapes.
