DSC_2393 Large trough clam, or whangai karoro (Spisula discors) detail of smooth surface on the lateral teeth of the hinge, which distinguished it from the almost identical Surf clam (S. murchisoni). Buried in clean sand off open coasts, and usually found on slightly less exposed beaches than the Surf clam. Shell colour usually white with a straw coloured periostracum. Warrington *
