11009-19721 Canterbury pink broom (Carmichaelia torulosa) slender growth habit and smaller racemes of delicate flowers distinguish our rarest 'pink' broom species - though the flowers are lavender not pink. Grows in valleys from the Amuri Range, south to the Tara Haoa Range, and especially South Canterbury. Amuri Range *
DSC_0469 Coastal tree broom (Carmichaelia muritai) flowers. Upper branches of this small tree are erect, while lower ones are pendulous. Originally discovered near Clifford Bay by a weed contractor who recognised it as a native, (rather than an exotic broom!) Two further populations were subsequently located. The species is seriously endangered by browsing animals, weed invasion, wind, and storm damage. Marfells Beach, Marlborough *
