DSC_5815 Kauri snail, or pupurangi (Paryphanta busbyi) adult on kauri forest floor. Once widespread in Northland, they now suffer heavy predation from animal pests such as rats, possums and pigs. These giant snails are carnivorous, their diet consists of earthworms, insects, insect larvae, and other snails.
