11003-24001 Tautuku, or Blue-eyed gecko (Mokopirirakau 'southern forest') this was the first 'blue-eyed' individual ever photographed. A captive male, originally from Progress Valley, it was 26 years old when this picture was taken in Oamaru at Peggy Soderstrom's in January 1986. This gecko was still alive and healthy at 32 years of age, when it was finally released at Peggy's daughter Helen’s property, on an ancient Tawa tree - unfortunately at Tory Channel in the Marlborough Sounds! *
