11004-04716 Taieri flathead galaxias (Galaxias depressiceps) one of 12 species of non-migratory, endemic galaxiids found in southern New Zealand. Depressiceps have a distinctly flattened head and a pointy nose give them a rather 'snooty' look. They are classified Nationally vulnerable, occupying an area of only 21.5 hectares. They are found in tributaries of the Taieri, Waikouaiti and Shag rivers, and as far as Akatore Creek in the north. They make their home in headwater streams that are small enough to step across and are surrounded by grasses and tussock. Kye Burn *
