11001-15211 Hutton's shearwater (Puffinus huttoni) pair mating in the snow in their breeding ground on the NZ mainland. Nesting between 1200 and 1800m above sea level, these are amongst the highest seabird breeding grounds in the world. When the colonies were first discovered by Geoff Harrow, in 1965, there were eight colonies scattered through the Inland and Seaward Kaikoura Range. Today habitat destruction, and predation from introduced mammals, has reduced this to two colonies. Upper Kowhai Stream, Seaward Kaikoura Range *
