DSC_2101 Brain fungus, or False morel (Gyromitra esculenta) after World War 2 this fungus was responsible for most of the wild mushroom poisonings in Germany and Poland. Despite it's species name esculenta, this fungus is very poisonous. The wrinkled cap is reminiscent of the folds of the brain, but like human skin, the mushroom becomes more wrinkly with age.
